a lovely stroll downtown...

 I always have fun walking down pikes place market, and the surrounding area. I think I feel more at home in a big city with a fresh attitude. I also really enjoy being by the water. It is so beautiful. And I love almost everything about the market. The fresh fruits and vegetables, the yummy bakeries and mom.&.pop restaurants, and lots and lots of fresh cut flowers.. I would seriously consider taking the time to drive down every week to do my grocery shopping at the market - that is, if it didn't cost and arm and a leg to park downtown.

But, we had a great time our day downtown, so please enjoy our picture book of adventure -

so very long overdue...

 beautiful picture, no? I am just positive that you really really wanted to see this. But {sorry for the once that winced} I had to add it. Jake decided to start his family's vacation out with a mountain-bike-crasherific-outting, I am just glad Adam was there to make sure Jake woke up after his (who really knows how long) blackout. {It really didn't look nearly as bad after it was washed}

 and.. here is my sweet little miss showing me her mountain biking injuries...

 ...oh... wait... she doesn't have any... weird.

 But, continuing on... We had such fun when the Schmutz' visited! That is part of the reason I have been MIA for the past couple weeks. After everything settled down, I was still in vacation mode, and have now, finally, been able to get back down to real life and get myself organized. And, I have a TON of pictures to put up, so that is part of the reason for my blog absence.. it seems much too daunting to organize, touch up and post all the pictures that I would like {In a perfect world they would all be scrapbooked too... to up the wow factor... but, luckly, I am not perfect - because, if I was perfect, you all would die of sheer jealousy}

so, I am at the conclusion that my next few posts are going to be lots and lots of pictures.. with very few words.

In the picture above.. Ashlyn really did try to smile on our visit to Alki beach; but, poor thing, that sun was just too bright.

 My little miss really has come to understand that her mother likes more of a documentary style of photography; and, because of this understanding, has decided to hardly ever smile for the camera.. what a sweetie.

 The view of Seattle on the west side across the port in the Puget Sound (Alki Beach) from our table.

 Ashlyn geared up for her day trip in the bike carriage.

 For all those people who feel sorry for Jake because he has to put up with me.. here is proof.. it is really I who puts up with him...

 Our little biker gang hanging around ready to go find some lunch.

 Ashlyn decided that she needed the bagel more than the poor little ducks.

 and in the end, good things come to those who are patient and un-murmuring!

yes... she really is that silly.

 What could be better than your own pair of cute pink and red, heart covered, sunglasses? and a handful.. well.. make that a mouth full of cadbury chocolate eggs? Not much.

Ashlyn was so cute yesterday, she had been playing around with Jake's sunglasses that morning, and was bending them all out of shape. So I got out these cheap little glasses that I had bought over christmas in utah. I had let her play with them before, but she never was very interested. But, I guess all in good time, because she had a lot of fun with them yesterday.

 She was trying to put the shades on the apple she was eating, so I pitched in and helped get them balanced just right. Now, every time she sees this picture, she is convinced that the apple has eyes.

 Here is the cheesy grin I got when I first pulled out my camera. She was so proud of herself, and walked around in her glasses almost the entire day. What a silly little miss...

F.I.N.A.L.S week = busy

 Finals week is in full swing over at our little house. This week is usually consumed with Ashlyn and I trying to bug Jake while he studies... And then Jake trying to ignore us.

Little miss schmutz and I aren't the best at this finals week business.

But the picture above was such a cute setup. Jake was studing when Ashlyn climbed aboard the couch and wiggled her way next to her Daddy with her new book. She then proceeded to read her book to herself while Jake studied. They both enjoyed the multi-tasking time spent together.

 But even after Jake had gone off to school, my little miss continued to keep herself occupied with her new bunny book. {...side note...i.can't.wait.for.easter...} Ashlyn really does have a soft spot in her heart for animals; even if she has decided that she doesn't really enjoy doggies. Kitties, squirrels, birdies, bunnies and stuffed giraffes are still favorites.

..add your own title here...

 so I wasn't sure what pictures I could share this week. It seems like we haven't been doing much, other than what has to get done.. and lets face it.. that just isn't fun at all. But then, while I was cleaning off my all-to-full camera memory card, I ran into these pictures and realized I never blogged about them.

 The reason I even have these pictures is that... one morning a few weeks ago, Ashlyn and I were playing with her hair bows. She was trying her hardest to clip them onto her babydoll, but they just weren't clipping into the plastic molded hair. So I proceeded to show her why the elastic hairband was invented; what a success. We continued to clip different bows and such onto the doll's hairband.

Well, then my little miss schmutz decided she needed a hairband. During the process of putting the little yellow band around her head, I discovered that her curly curly hair was finally long enough to tuck the elastic behind. I tried, in vain, to get a picture of the back of her hair to show, but I guess the pictures above are cute enough.

 After little miss schmutz had gotten dolled up for the day, she decided to take her little people shopping.. what a sweetheart.

a little update...

 sorry the pics are pretty bad this time around.. but little miss schmutz was being very cute, but not very still. Anyways, she's got a whole list of new tricks up her sleeve, but the funnest one is when she goes and hides. She usually sits around and waits for someone to find her (like this morning in the coat closet). She also likes to hide when she is doing something she is embarrassed about (aka. messing her diaper... if I catch her while she is busy she will wave at me and say "bye bye".. or.. in other words.. "a little privacy please?") or when she is doing something she is not suppose to be doing (aka. drawing on the carpet with lipstick).

She's finally figuring out that there are things that she is not "suppose" to be doing. For the longest time she never got that concept. She would do something, something bad would happen, and she never realized that she caused it. But I think she's finally starting to understand that, but now it has made for harder days since I am having to teach her what she can do and reinforce all the rules.

She is also starting to talk a lot more and she understands almost anything I say (which is so nice). She knows how to say half a dozen animal sounds (what a cow says, kittie, doggie, birdie, lion - we are working on). And she knows how to say, and find, her nose, eye, mouth, ear, fingers, toes, and occasionally her checks, chin, eyebrows, and hair. But, the cutest things she says are - "buh bye, wuv oo" (translation - bye bye, love you... and she says it whenever Jake or I are leaving) and she has started to pick up "eew" for when either she is messy or she sees something that is messy.

And, what an imagination this child has! She loves to growl like a lion, and loves it even more when I do it back to her. She is always coming up with some new little game she is playing and usually dragging a little stuffed animal or two along with her. Last night at dinner she had a straw in her water.. before I knew what was going on, she had decided that the little bent straw was a "birdie" and it was "cawing" (like a crow) and flying around her cup... silly kiddo.

So, I know everyone likes lots of pictures, But I just had to write these things down, even if I do sound a little scatter brained.. hopefully I will come through and edit this to be more enjoyable to read.

But, the picture above, is of this morning. I tried to help ashlyn get dressed, but this is what she ended up picking out for herself... gotta love the matching pink..lol. she also had on the light pink and white polka dot and striped tights - way too busy! but I guess that just shows off her personality better..
